Each round or turn in Kongai has two phases. The second of these is the combat phase.
Terminology[]
Once the range is determined, both players select an action with their active characters. They can choose to use an ability (most of which are attacks), rest, swap out, or intercept. Once the combat phase has ended, all characters recover 20 Energy (maximum of 100). Inactive characters recover 1 health as well. The game then goes back to the maneuver phase.
During this phase, both players select an action with their active character. They can choose to use one of their four combat abilities, switch out, intercept, or rest.
Like in the maneuver phase, players make their choices simultaneously, with the results revealed only once both have made their selection.
If you fail to make a selection before the timer runs out, your character will rest.
Combat Abilities[]
This will either attack, apply a positive effect (buff) on you, apply a negative effect (debuff) on your opponent, or some combination. Not all abilities will be available; some may be grayed out because you're at the wrong range, or you don't have enough Energy left to perform them.
Intercept[]

Prevents your opponent from switching out, and inflicts 35 damage. It doesn't cost any Energy, but has no effect if your opponent does not switch out.
Switch Out[]
See also: Switch Out

Swaps your active character for one of your deck characters. If your opponent attacks, you will dodge his/her attack and avoid taking damage. You cannot switch characters two turns in a row.
Rest[]

This does no damage, but simply regains an extra 20 Energy — so 40 total for the turn.
