Kongai League is an event organized by few Kongai veterans: Shadowinfinity, Zakid, Ooooog and BlazinRobotsInc. The idea behind the league was to make a tournament for experienced, high-ranked players exclusively. The concept met big support from both members of Kongai community and Kongregate staff. The games started in April and finished by the end of June. So far, it has been the biggest Kongai competition ever organized.

Kongai League #1[]

Regular Season[]

  • Thursday, April 16, 2009 - Sunday, May 31, 2009
Main article: Kongai League 1 Regular Season

61 players decided to enter the competition. They were divided into two groups: Group A and Group B (30 and 31 players). Games were played in a round robin system - a certain player would receive 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 for a loss. However, as it turned out to be impossible for the participants to get the matches done, an alternative way of ranking the players was coined:

Score=(Points/Games)*(1+0.01*Neustadl), for players with more than 15 games

Score=(Points/Games)*(1+0.006*Neustadl), for players with less than 15 games

The season was played over 7-weeks beginning on April 16. Each of the groups 61 players plays a single round robin against other players in the same group up to 29 (Group A) or 30 (Group B) games. The regular season concluded on May 31.

Playoffs[]

Since the Kongai League organizers realized it's infeasible to get all the matches played, they have to come up with an alternative way of ranking the players. Therefore, the organizers agreed that it's necessary for all players to have at least 15 games played in order to facilitate the process of ranking players in a fair way. Players who don't have at least 15 games played wouldn't qualify for the playoffs.

The organizers need to hear back from everyone who will be participating in the playoffs. Some of the people who have qualified for the playoffs through the season have been inactive, and may need replacements. This leaves the door open for others, especially those in spots near the Top 12 to qualify. Depending on who receives an invination and responds, players might get a playoff spot even if players didn't qualify initially. Players have until Friday, June 5th to respond.

12 players advanced from each group. 24 players met in playoffs (8 byes for participants from positions 1-4). The first round was played in Bo3 (best out of 3) mode, 1/8 and quarterfinals in Bo5, semifinals, finals and the 3rd place game in Bo7.

Kongai League #2[]

Players

Entrants will be divided up into several smaller groups based on both their timezone and their skill rank. This will endeavor to keep competition fair while also making it much easier to find matches. In each three game series, players are limited to using each character card one time per series. Items are unlimited and may be used freely.

Rank System

Each player will play 3 games against everyone else in their group. One point will be awarded per win, .5 for ties, and 0 for a loss. An extra point will be awarded to both players upon the completion of their three game series, to reward those who play all of their games.

Game Reporting

The reporting system has been upgraded. Standings will still be handled using a Google Spreadsheet, but instead of reporting via email, players can now add their results to the spreadsheet via form. The link to the form is accessible from the spreadsheet as well on the Kongregate Forum original post.

Regular Season 1st Stage[]

  • Sunday, October 11, 2009 - Monday, November 30, 2009
Main article: Kongai League 2 Regular Season Stage 1

The season was played over 7-weeks beginning on October 11. Each of the groups 76 players plays a triple round robin against other players in the same group up to 30 (Group A), 33 (Group B), 52 (Group C), 36 (Group D), 33 (Group E) or 36 (Group F) games. Players are drawn into six groups, with at least 11 players in each group. The top four players in each group of the first stage qualify for the second stage, an 8 player triple round robin within own group. The regular season concluded on November 30.

Regular Season 2nd Stage[]

  • Thursday, December 3, 2009 - Wednesday, January 13, 2010
Main article: Kongai League 2 Regular Season Stage 2

Players are drawn into three groups, with at least 6 players in each group. The top four players in each group of the second stage qualify for the Knockout Stage, a single elimination tournament.

Playoffs[]

  • Wednesday, February 3, 2010 - Thursday, August 5, 2010
Main article: Kongai League 2 Playoffs

The size of the playoffs was determined by how many players joined the league, but the most likely scenario is that the organizers will reuse the system from the previous league. In that case, 24 players would make the playoffs with 8 byes awarded to the top scorers. Playoff matchups will start at best of 5 for early rounds, expanding to best of 7 in later rounds. The deck restrictions from the regular season will not be carried over to the playoffs, meaning players are free to choose any cards they desire.

Kongai League #3[]

Regular Season[]

  • Saturday, July 31, 2010 - Thursday, August 26, 2010
Main article: Kongai League 3 Regular Season

The first round will last from July 31st to August 26th. It will be a double round robin where each player (tries to) play everybody else twice. In order for games to count, players must play at least 50% of the other players. Additionally, there will be randomized mandatory matchups for each player. All of these matchups must be completed by the end of the first round except against people who will inevitably drop the tourney with no replacement.

There will also be a halfway checkpoint on August 4th, where players must have completed 20% of their games. Players who don’t make that percentage will be dropped from the league. Players who have played against the players who didn't meet the requirement threshold will still have those matches counted in their favor. The number of people who advance to the next round depends on the number of participants. Advancement will be determined by win/loss ratios. Numbers are subject to change. Reserve players, who will replace players who don’t make the checkpoint, will only be required to complete 40% of their games. They will take over a previous player’s mandatory matches.

Rules for individual matches will be the same across all 2 rounds:

  • No card restrictions except no Robots or Witches if they suddenly get released in the middle of the league.
  • In case of conflict, it’s recommended that you keep a screenshot of all of your wins and loss result. However, they are not required.
  • EsIeX3 is expecting that most players are mature enough to settle disconnects on their own. However, if the players do end up in an argument over what to do, an organizer will determine what the best course of action is. Get a screenshot of the final game state right before the disconnect if possible to make the decision an easier one.
  • Matches should be reported ASAP.
  • Anybody found using an alternate account will be dropped from the tourney.
  • Once the tourney starts, the rules and deadlines won't change. Special cases will be handled individually, but will be unlikely to be.
  • You may only release videos from a particular round once it’s over. Example: if you have video of a first round match, you’re not allowed to release it until the first round is over.

Playoffs[]

  • Sunday, August 29, 2010 - Saturday, November 13, 2010
Main article: Kongai League 3 Playoffs

The second round will last from August 29th to November 13th. This round will be the tournament playoffs. It will be a double elimination tournament. In case the league doesn't have enough players (which only 33 players participated) the second round was omitted of the three stages, so the regular season and playoffs was made longer.

Prizes[]

All players shall receive few physical Kongai cards. In Kongai Leagues #1 and #2, the top three players will additionally receive Kreds awards:

Place Prize
1 80 Kreds
2 50 Kreds
3 30 Kreds
